Vacation over. Sad face. Although…I get to come home to San Diego so I can’t complain ever too much.
Thanks to all my amazing guest bloggers! I left you with some good stuff, huh?
Boston was lovely, the yoga retreat was very zen, and over it was great to step outside my normal routine and “check out” from work and my normal routine. I think we all need that sometimes, you know? At least I do. Although I did miss my puppy. And she didn’t totally forget about us after being spoiled by “grandpa” (Mitch’s dad) for the week.
I’m not sure how much of a trip recap I’m going to do for the blog. Probably just some kind of “highlights” reel for the Boston part and a little more in-depth of a post about Kripalu, because I think you, lovely readers, would find that part cool. But fifty photos of Fenway Park and Harvard? Maybe not so much. One thing I’ve learned, and Facebook constantly reiterates for me, is that usually, no one wants to see a million photos of your vacation but you. Right?
I also decided I’m going to skip posting a recap of my workouts for my training because I didn’t really follow my plan. I lifted weights twice (sorta), did yoga once, went on one run, one run/elliptical cardio session, and a whole bunch of walking. I know “they” say to wake up early to fit in your workouts when on vacation but um…I wake up early all the time. And our hotel room was right by the elevator and a bunch of screaming kids. Waking up early was not going to happen. So I would have liked to do more formal exercise, but luckily I have this pesky half-marathon to keep me from turning a week (ok…more like 11 days) of slacking off into a new habit of being lazy.
The other reason I didn’t work out as much as I normally do can be attributed to stuff like this:
That’s the tail end of a cannoli, by the way. And that’s about the extent of my food photos because a) I got bored with taking food photos b) Our food was good but it wasn’t that unusual or pretty…I think you can picture a turkey sandwich or French onion soup and c) I was too busy eating dessert to think about photos.
I probably made healthy choices (oatmeal, fruit) about 50% of the time, and the other 50% was lots of white bread and sugar. (Not counting the food at the yoga retreat. That shizz was AMAZING, fresh, organic, healthy, nourishing, perfect and deserves it’s own post). And I FELT it towards the end. My stomach was not happy with me, and even today, after a day of “normal Hallie” food, I still couldn’t find the energy to go on the run I had planned (although, let’s chalk that up to jet lag, ok?). Funny how eating healthy and exercise is related like that.
But I picked up my weekly CSA shipment yesterday, and if I could have mainlined the rainbow chard, I would have. And the cherries have arrived. Oh yes.
As much as I’m trying really hard to be kind to myself as far as the body-image thing goes, part of being good to myself is to eat things that make me feel good and as much as I may hate to admit it, dessert and fried food as regular parts of my diet make me feel pretty crappy. So it’s been fun “letting loose” but I’m kinda over it now. I want the “Healthy” back in Healthy Twists. I’ve got a half marathon to train for and this girl does not run on Dunkin Donuts, no matter what advertisers in Boston would have me believe

i firmly believe that the healthiest part of any diet is being able to enjoy the “unhealthy” food without guilt. glad you had fun.
