December Goals and November Remembered

Hello friends! My day has been…well. it’s over, let’s just say that. I’m going to a desperately needed Happy Hour with a girlfriend after work, so I have to get my butt up and go to the gym in the morning. Which means I’m going to bed an hour ago as soon as I hit publish.

All over blog land, people have been posting their November months-in-review and talking about upcoming goals. And since I’m a lemming, I decided to do something kinda like that too. It’s a little harder for me, since I don’t document as much of my life on my blog as others. Trust me, you’re not missing much.

I am not one to really write my goals down, but looking back on it, there were things I wanted to accomplish in November. My biggest goal for this month was to rock my 10k. I didn’t really have a specific goal in mind, I just wanted to be proud of my effort.

Check!

After that, my goal was to continue working on my running, increasing my distance. I ran 7 miles with no walk breaks on Thanksgiving, so we’ll give that one a check too.

On the food front, my goal was to keep the good habits (like making sure I eat enough protein, especially in the form of Greek yogurt for calcium and protein) that I picked up from my bootcamp. I am definitely more aware of my protein intake these days, so I’m doing well there.

Another goal of mine this month was, well, to transition from a super strict diet to a normal, balanced, and hopefully, weight-maintaining lifestyle. And not go crazy in the process. I give myself a 5 out of 10 on that one. I don’t feel mentally back to normal—or rather, I am all too familiar with feelings I’ve had this month related to food and my body image, because I’ve been there before. Sometimes it sucks, but I’m working on it and I know I’ll get back to normal, whatever that is.

I also know I’m not quite as “lean” as I was right after the bootcamp, but that’s to be expected. And it’s OK…right?!?!

Onwards and Upwards!

I wanted to put down (and on the Internet) some goals for December. I think that might help me actually do them:

  1. Push-ups 6-7 days a week. I got this idea from Jessica’s blog (which I love, by the way). I want to be able to do 20 full push-ups, and the only way that’s going to happen is if I make myself do them every day. How long does that take, one minute? I can do that in my office if I have to. I’m going to write down in my calendar how many I did to keep accountable. Today I did 5 which was ok considering I’ve got some DOMS going on.
  2. Schedule workouts and if the schedule has to change, re-do it. I want to do strength 3x a week and cardio of some form 6x a week. I also want to run 2x a week (as 2 of the cardio sessions, obviously). This month is going to be crazy, of course, but that’s no excuse not to fit in my workouts. Exercise makes me sane and I need all the help in the sanity department I can get.
  3. Try not to stress too much about the extra treats. Tis the season. Just balance said treats with wholesome healthy foods and make the best choices I can. Emphasis on the DON’T STRESS OUT part. See above.
  4. Purchase on holiday gifts for others before I buy gifts for myself. I am a sucker for a good deal, of which there are a lot right now. But I’m also broke. I need to wait until after New Year’s to treat myself. There will be deals then too.

Ok I could probably do more, but I want to be realistic, so let’s start here. THANK YOU to all the bloggers who inspired me to do this post (more too, I’m sure…I read a lot of blogs)!

What are you most excited and/or nervous about this month? Do you write your goals down? I’m more of a “mental list” person usually, so we’ll see how this goes.

Later gators :-)

Wonderful goals!!! I could really use to do more push ups. I can still hardly push out 10 on an incline, and can’t even do one on my toes!! My biggest goal this month is to “get a grip.” In other words, my life requires a lot more organization.

I find goal writing is very helpful and keeps me on track during the month. I’m gonna follow the one about buying presents for everyone else before myself! With so many good deals, its hard!

  4. Great goals! I especialy love the last one (I need to work on that). I do write my goals down, and keep them in my planner. For this month I am most worried about getting everything done, and not being stressed about all I have to do. It’s hard, but it’s possible!

    KEep up the good work.

    Thanks for the shout-out, love!

I’m a mental list sort of person.

My December is so insane that my only goal for this month is to survive!

  8. I need to work on my pushups too. I’m fairly strong but when it comes to pushups, I feel like a slacker. I can do 10 or so real pushups but I don’t think my form is that good and it’s a struggle. There’s a website called hundredpushups.com that I was told about…..teaching you how to do 100 pushups one day at a time. :) Crazy sounding huh?
