Feeling the Pride Today

Good morning (or afternoon)! I am in a really good mood right now. Keep on reading to learn why…

Like other bloggers, I received a few loaves of bread from Nature’s Pride to sample and review. Mitch is VERY brand-loyal, so we’re big Oroweat purchasers around here and I was interested in trying out a different brand. (I think Oroweat and Arnold’s is the same company. Why do companies do that, call one product by another name depending on the state? Weird. /tangent)

We got a loaf of the whole wheat and a loaf of the 12 grain varieties.

Normally, I buy bread products that are 100% whole wheat. I am usually wary of terms like “multigrain” or “12 grain” because often, these types of products include refined flours, which I don’t want if I’m choosing a “healthy” bread. However, I had a feeling that the 12-grain bread would make perfect pre-run fuel. It takes me awhile to digest my food so I don’t get sick while exercising, so I actually prefer bread that is a little lighter in the fiber department. Here are the nutrition stats for the 12-grain bread:

I had one slice, toasted, with 1/2 a tablespoon of peanut butter this morning before my run.

Success! I think this is my new pre-workout snack. I was able to run 4 miles without feeling weighed down or hungry. I liked the nutty and slightly sweet flavor of the 12-grain. It was a nice change from the dense sprouted-grain breads I usually choose, and I think the ingredient list is better than Mitch’s beloved Oroweat.

Are you brand-loyal? Or do you like trying new products and brands? Me, I’m always looking for products that are as inexpensive as I can find while still maintaining quality ingredients. Which is why I love Trader Joe’s so much.

Oh…yes….I RAN FOUR MILES THIS MORNING! That’s a PDR (personal distance record) for me so I’m kind of riding that high today. The Nature’s Pride and the Hallie Pride is in full effect around here (groan all you want for that one, I don’t mind).

I have some more thoughts on my running that I want to organize and share in a future post. It’s one of those “need to get my thoughts on paper” kind of things but I think you’ll enjoy reading it as well. At least, I hope so.

I’m heading out to visit my grandma for a bit and pick up a few veggies at the grocery store. I signed up to go to a “Sustainable Agriculture & Local Meat Education Class” sponsored by Slow Food Urban San Diego later this afternoon. It’s a free talk where “Local meat farmers will share their experiences about raising animals sustainably and their thoughts on today’s farming practices and our current food system.” I think it’ll be interesting…but I’m also feeling lazy so…we’ll see.

Later gators :-)

That talk sounds very interesting, enjoy!
I like your new pre-workout snack, perfect mix of protein and carbs! I am usually pretty brand loyal with bread, but if I see a cheap one that is whole grain, I’ll buy it :) I do like Trader Joe’s bread a lot.

Regarding the comment on my blog, I completely agree with you that it was gutsy to only have the chicken and sweet potato mashed as the meal. I even said to my mom, “what if someone doesn’t eat or like chicken??” or “what if someone doesn’t like sweet potatoes?”. She said, “They can eat bread and butter!” haha.

Haha, you totally stole my brand loyalty question from a couple days ago! ;)

I am loyal to old favorites. Occasionally I will wander but I always come back to my tried and true’s!

  3. I am VERY brand loyal. I don’t know why, but when I find something I like, I stick with it. I’m always open to trying–but it takes a lot to get me to convert or switch up my go-tos.

I’m anti bottled water too. I will buy one, when on the road or something, then re-use it a millions times (washing it in between of course). People who drink a new one very hour are doing more hard than good in my opinion!
