“Hallie Likes It” Giveaway

Welcome to my first post on my “new” blog! Thanks for coming over from wherever you came ;-)

In order to celebrate the fact that I’ve hit 100 posts as a blogger, and the fact that I finally moved to my own self-hosted website, I put together a little giveaway. Basically, I grabbed a bunch of stuff that I would want to get if I were entering the contest. And I made sure to include some Trader Joe’s goods, for those poor souls who don’t live near a TJ.

Here’s what you win:

give

  • Sweet:
    • Ghirardelli dark chocolate bar with mint filling
    • PB&J bar: peanut butter, milk and dark chocolate, and raspberry jam (never tried this…but OMG it sounds amazing)
    • Green tea flavored mints (love these)
    • Gummi Bears (110-calorie pack)
  • Savory:
    • 21-seasoning salute (salt-free seasoning blend; great on chicken and veggies)
    • Single-serving popcorn (2 bags; 110 calories per bag)
  • Energy:
    • Apple Pie Larabar (2)
    • Oatmeal Walnut Raisin Clif bar (1)
    • Chocolate chip Clif Z-bar (2)
  • Warm Beverages:
    • White tea, pomegranate flavor (my new obsession)
    • Rooibus red chai tea (decaf)
  • Grains:
    • sample pack of organic instant oatmeal (Whole Foods brand, all natural of course)
  • Dairy:
    • Stonyfield gift pack (not pictured): 1 free 16 oz Oikos coupon, 4 free 5.3 oz Oikos coupons and a reusable bag.

So how do you win?

Per usual, you have a few chances to enter:

  1. Update your blogroll/blog reader with www.healthytwists.com and leave a comment or email me letting me know you did so. Only if you want to, of course!
  2. Follow me on Twitter and Tweet about this contest (make sure you put @hallieaviva in your Tweet so I see it).
  3. Leave me a comment with an idea of what I can do for homemade holiday gifts this yeat for Christmas/Hanukkah. Keep in mind I’m poor, not super artsy, and I don’t want to do something food-related (since there is enough of that stuff around the holidays without me adding to the cookie situation). Or leave me a comment telling me what you think of my new blog, if you are like me and can’t think of cool gift ideas.
  4. Link back to this contest on your blog and let me know you did so.

(Contest only open to US residents. Sorry, Canadian friends!)

That’s FOUR chances to win! I hope this contest spreads the word about my new blog, and also thanks my readers who have put up with my silly antics and random postings over the course of this year. I love being a part of the blogging community and hope the blog only gets better as I keep working on it and writing posts that people want to read.

THANKS to Stonyfield for being the only company to agree to give something away to a reader! Everything else I bought myself. Seriously, what a great—and smart—company, right?

In other news…I have my next weigh-in tomorrow. I don’t think it’s going to go that well, but I know that I really am giving this program everything that I have so I have to be happy for that. I’m halfway through the program and I am counting down the days. As a foodie, not being able to eat what I want is killing me. I know I have to sacrifice to get what I want…but it’s hard. A good learning experience if nothing else, but really freaking hard.

GOOD LUCK on the giveaway! I’ll take entries until midnight PST on Friday, September 11, and announce the winner on Saturday.

I LOVE the new blog!! I updated your blog on mine! :) Ok, this giveaway is one of the best I’ve seen, so I want entered as much as possible, haha. So ideas for gifts? This year I will be making homemade granola and putting it in goodie bags, along with chocolate dipped waffle cones!! I also think candles are a nice gift, and stationary. Both of those NEVER get old. Also homemade magnets are fun. I’m not creative outside the kitchen, so I’m not much help in that area. Anyway, I’ll be posting about your giveaway on my next post!

    Delicious giveaway Hallie!

We gave our family little pound cakes one year tied with a card that said we’d donated to a food bank. It didn’t cost us nearly as much as 10x gifts would have. I don’t think they took it very well though. They wanted gifts!

Congratulations on your move!! I have yet to make a move myself. Your page looks great! :-)

I’ve updated you in my blog reader, and I will link back in my next post.

Hmm… non-food related holiday gift… I think that framed photographs are a great gift. They can be photos of you or of beautiful things you capture with your camera. It doesn’t cost too much to print the photos, and you can get some very affordable frames (often with mats) at your local craft store. You could even decorate the frames a bit or write a caption across the bottom of the mat with a pretty pen. I like getting framed photos as gifts, and they are calorie free. :-)

i guess you could give little handmade ornaments as a good christmas present. my sister and i used to like take colored string, spray glue on it, run it through sprinkles and coil it around and it’s like an abstract ornament. =D or make cool ornaments with popsicle sticks- little trees and paint it green, or better yet, make little friendship bracelets or landyards! =D

WOW…you think about holidays way ahead of time!

Here’s an idea if you have family and friends who like to cook and try out new recipes. Put together a book of recipes that you make regularly and then include maybe some kitchen gadgets. I would love to get a book of recipes that a friend put together of favorite recipes she makes on a regular basis.

i just found out about your blog from another blog! sweeeeet, i added you to my reader. i know this is somewhat food related, but last year i bought each of my friends a cute coffee mug that i thought they would like and stuck a $5 giftcard to a local coffee house inside. the coffee mugs i got at walmart for $3 each, making each gift a cool eight bucks! the year before that, i bought everyone a book from barnes&noble, from the bargain priced books, i found a ton of cool books that were all under $10 each.

For a homemade gift – assuming you have any pictures with the person – I like to buy a super cheap frame and then decorate it. I LOVE getting pictures from people so I’m assuming they like getting them as gifts too!

  27. Hmmm…. baking is always a good idea for homemade gifts. I once received an “out of this world” yummy brownie in a little ceramic pot. She wrapped it up with cute tags, colorful cellophane, and ribbons. Make a signature recipe and rock their socks off.

  28. oopps…. sorry, I read you WANT something food related…. here is a non food related idea. Handmade “green shopping bags”, I think it is very eco friendly and simple to make. There are many pattens online, you just print and cut the fabric according to the print and sew together. Maybe add a personal touch to each of the bag by sewing on their initials or just the first letter of their name? Everyone needs more “green shopping” bags.

Rather than exchanging gifts each year, my family exchanges recipes. Every member picks their favorite recipe, writes/types it up very nicely on cool paper, then makes 30-something copies, and sends one to each family member. It’s very inexpensive and very neat to get a bunch of new recipes every year – we all have a “Ledvina Family Cookbook” (that is a 3-ring binder) to keep the recipes in. (I realize this is sort of food-related, but I think that it goes in a different direction with it!)
