I’ve been reading blogs long enough to know that when one sees this:
It can only mean one thing: oatmeal in a jar!
Because I have control issues, I scraped the last bit out and measured it so I could be sure I wasn’t having a crazy amount of PB. In total it was 1.5 to 2 tablespoons, so that was ok. I was really sad to see this jar go (it’s lasted me months) because it was the cheapest and best-tasting PB I could find, from my local health-food store:
I don’t think Henry’s has their own brand anymore, or at least I can’t find their peanut butter. Any San Diego peeps know what I’m talking about? I might switch to Whole Foods’ brand because it’s tasty and actually reasonably priced. I try to avoid Whole Foods as much as possible…I think my landlord enjoys receiving the rent check each month.
Ok, enough whining about peanut butter and being broke. Back to breakfast.
Into my jar went my first batch of pumpkin oats for the season: 1/3 c oats, 1/3 cup almond milk, 2/3 cup (too much!) water, about 1/3 cup pumpkin, 1 T flax and 1/2 T psyllum husk. And a ton of pumpkin pie spice and a stevia packet.
I learned something at breakfast yesterday. More peanut butter = better jar of oats. I was putting in about a teaspoon of the good stuff before with 1/2 cup oats and 1/2 a banana, but I think less oats, no banana, more nut butter is the way to go! So good.
Although, I wasn’t as enamored with the jar oats as everyone else. I kinda wished I had just scooped out the last bit and had it in a bowl like a normal person. It was nice not having another dish to wash, however. When I was done, I gave the jar to Nina and she finished cleaning the inside of the jar for me. One of these days I’ll take a video of her licking the empty PB jar because it’s really entertaining.
The problem with this breakfast was that, along with my cup of coffee and post-workout water chugging, I was really full. I like the feeling of being full/satisfied, but this was just uncomfortable. I estimated the meal to be about 400 calories, so it wasn’t a gigantic breakfast, but it was quite high in fiber…maybe 12-15 grams? I had an oatmeal baby for awhile, that’s for sure.
And as for this post’s title:
Mitch watched me taking photos this morning and he asked, “Why are you taking pictures of that? I mean, I get that it’s for the blog, but what are you going to say? ‘Look at me, I finished my jar of peanut butter?” And when I said, “Yep, pretty much,” he said, “I guess I just don’t get ‘art.’”
What do the people in your life think about your food blog, if you have one? I get the feeling most of the people think I’m a little nuts. That’s part of the reason I am too shy (so far) to take food photos at parties or restaurants!

I get some crazy looks and I am sure that some people think I am nuts but the people that are closest to me, the people that actually matter, think it is neat and love my blog so they “get it.”
I think that food is an art. It is called Culinary Arts! I don’t see what the difference is of taking a picture of a piece of food versus taking a picture of a leaf that has turned orange or your dog that looks the same everyday. Why are you taking a picture of your dog that you see everyday? Because you think they are cute. Because you love them. Because you want to be reminded of something adorable they did. It’s the same thing with food. I want to remember my food, the good and the bad and the ugly. ESPECIALLY when I go out to a restaurant!

haha, Mitch’s comment sounds JUST like something Nick would say! ON some days he is all about my blog, and even wants to ask me questions about what I am saying or doing with it. On other days he acts like he is jealous of all the time I spend blogging! haha, make up your mind buddy.
I’m not really a big fan of the oats in a jar either. I completely agree with you, why not just scoop it out and put it in a bowl?? I guess it’s just the idea of eating out of the jar…yeah!

I have a bad habit of leaving my breakfast dishes out when I leave for work in the morning. Some days I’ll come home and find a spoon in an empty nut butter jar from my morning oats, and I wonder what other people would think if they saw that
I’m with you on the more nut butter! I’ve been leaving out the banana and extra fixings lately for a little extra oatmeal and nut butter and it is SO much more filling.
My family thinks I’m crazy, but they also talk about my blog with me all the time. So at least I’m entertaining them! I’ve also recently learned that being open about being a food blogger in restaurants = much better service

Only my boyfriend knows about the blog, I don’t really want others to find out. They are annoyed by my lifestyle, so I have this blog as a place where I can go and be myself, and be understood.

You should DEFINITELY still do a post on persimmons!! Teach your readers (including me, although you already sort of explained it( how to choose the right persimmon and WHEN to eat them! I would read it, for sure, and I’m sure others would appreciate it!

My fiance knows about my blog and likes it. A few of my friends know about it, but the majority of them don’t.

My friends think I’m silly about my blog. Oh well. It really is their loss. So, your oatmeal looks great.
