Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m waiting for my dad to pick me up so I thought I’d pop in here to wish you all a happy holiday…or a happy Thursday, as the case may be. My dad and I are going over to Mitch’s dad’s house for the big day, which will be fun because it’ll be the biggest Thanksgiving I’ve had in, oh probably forever as far as number of people attending (9 or 10?). I don’t have that big a family, especially not here in San Diego.
More people means more desserts! I love me a dessert-sampler platter but when you’re only 3 people (one of whom claims that he just wants turkey and stuffing as his dessert) there is usually not much in the way of sweets, and really? That’s just wrong! My contributions are ready to go, and I’m happy because they both came out pretty good.
I made another chocolate tofu pie, this time using about 1.5 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips (all I had left from before) mixed in with a chopped-up, small milk-chocolate bar (Green & Black’s—the BEST!). I think this is going to be even more decadent than before, which is perfect for a holiday, right? I also made the apple crisp I made a few weeks ago. And of course you can’t have an apple crisp without vanilla ice cream…reduced fat, for irony’s sake.
My “game plan” for the big meal? I don’t really have one. I’m just going to try to have fun, remember that it’s about the company not the food, try not to drink too much (I get BAD drunk munchies), and enjoy myself. I keep hearing everyone saying things like, “it’s just one day, go to town” but I know that there are more holiday festivities to come between now and Christmas, so I need to keep in mind my goals.
In other news…there was a Turkey Trot 10k this morning and even though I knew a lot of people participating, I decided not to go because I didn’t want to stress out about having to wake up early, get down there, pay the registration, etc etc. Instead, I decided to do my own version of a Turkey Trot (and trot I did…). I went to Mission Bay (near my house) and ran SEVEN MILES along the gorgeous bay!! A new distance record.
I was nervous because I haven’t been running much lately, and I’m concerned about getting injured. But I went slow (per usual) and finished just under 1 hr, 22 minutes (a little less than 12 min/mile, which is fine by me).
Now, the calories I burned equal about one piece of pie and two glasses of wine, so today’s run was only partly about that. I had the time, that was one thing. And I just really wanted to hit a new record. So even though, I’ll admit, I was hoping to come in under 1:20, I felt really accomplished, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my morning.
(I saw tons of people running/walking/biking, and I swear I could almost hear everyone thinking: pumpkin pie stuffing mashed potatoes… Really though, it made me so happy to see that many people enjoying this perfect day and exercising. It’s like we were sharing endorphins or something…I know, I’m weird)
I hope whatever you do today, you have a wonderful (and SAFE) Thanksgiving (or for non-US readers, a superb Thursday). Today, among other things, I’m thankful for:
- My family (both biological and the ones I have “adopted” as family)
- My friends
- My boyfriend (who fits both above categories)
- My puppy
- My employment (and freelance work)
- My health and the ability I have to exercise where many do not
- Twitter (shut up…)
- Everyone out there in blog land (seriously…ya’ll are amazing)
XOXO

Good for you!! That’s fantastic that you got out there and ran, even if it wasn’t the “Turkey Trot” whatever. So amazing! And, I love that your plan was to just not have one. If you don’t think about the food too much, and you focus more on the reason why we are all coming together in the first place, your body will help you through! You know, by letting you know when you are hungry and full….
The tofu pie looks great, although I’d probably have to pass now that I know my body can’t handle tofu! Glad you had a great Thanksgiving

Yaayyyy on 7 miles!!! You’ll be at 10 in no time
I don’t think it’s all about how often you run anyways, I only run twice a week. It’s not like we’re training for marathons here
I’m all about the dessert at holiday meals too, it’s what I look forward to the most. One thing I don’t like about eating with Chris’ family is that they stuff themselves on the meal, and then always pass on dessert because they’re too full. Meanwhile, I have a small plate and sit there afterwards saying “where’s the piiieeee!?!?”
